Creating a basic sharepoint site for sharepoint 2010

There are many planning things that you should consider before creating a sharepoint site. How long will the site last? For example is this going to be an portal for HR or your company just doing a company-wide event that will be over in 3 months? How should the site be designed? What functionality is required? Would it be an intranet site for internal employees or partners? Or is it going to be customer-facing? Planning all these steps will make your job much easier. If you really help planning your next sharepoint project, I recommend you click here.

Next you will probably need to make sure you have the right permissions to build the site. Once you have these, you can click the “site options” menu on the left hand side of sharepoint and click “new site.”
This will give you various site templates. Depending on what you want to do, you can choose the appropriate template. For example, a teamsite would give you a list of announcements, a document library, tasks etc. Again you need to see what functionality you need in your site to choose the right template.

Let’s take a simple site for example. Below is an example of creating what I will call a “blank site” using the “blank site” template. Once you select this, the system will then ask you for a name on the right hand side. Simply type in a name and a url. You will need to select url depending upon if you want to create a subsite on top of another site or a brand new site. If you want to change the permissions to the subsite, there is a “more options” button on the right below where you enter in your site name. To change site settings such as color scheme, colors, etc, you can click on “site actions” to the left once again and scroll down to “site settings.”
Well now you have a blank site. Now what? Well you need to add content! To do this, there is a “create” button at the top in the middle. Click this.

See how easy it is to create a basic site in sharepoint 2010? Here’s what I recommend you do next: create a few sites and play around with the different features to determine exactly what you need.

But really this shouldn’t be an issue for you. Click here for more information.
