This video shows how you can connect Sharepoint to SQL server for example. It takes about 5 minutes.
They show that you can get a customer information chart, for example from SQL server right into Sharepoint. The chart is itself customized to the technical person’s needs with customer name, YTD revenue, phone, etc. If you need to update the information in the chart, you can do so using the tool and sharepoint is updated as well almost instantaneously.
The video also shows that you can hook outlook for example to the same piece of business data in the chart.

Excel services allow you to publish excel workbooks into Sharepoint and share these workbooks with your team. You will able to have control over who sees what on your team as well. This eliminates the insecurity of just emailing excel docs around and around.

Detailed Vizio digrams can be shared with your team over sharepoint 2010. This will allow business users to take the appropriate workflow changes to alter the project if needed.
