How To Build An Intranet With Sharepoint

Sharepoint enables businesses all over to collaborate on projects, sites, and documents. But will it really work well for you? Click here to see if it will. Sharepoint also makes things like search a lot easier. Say for example you have a project that you need to accomplish. Well instead of emailing 20 people over the next few days, you can use sharepoint search to find the right people you are looking for, e.g. a graphic designer. Then you can use the sharepoint software suite to locate the most important documents for your team project. Sharepoint provides an organized site or a stream sites that help you find and manage your “stuff.” Think one “point” to “share” your information, hence the name “Sharepoint.”

What can you do with an intranet created through Sharepoint?

Read on and here’s what a basic intranet site created by Sharepoint looks like.

Similar to the webpages you see online, you can create a navigation bar on the left hand side. You can organize information using tabs at the top as well. It’s really dependent upon how you want to design it. Another way you can do this is by using icons as links. For example, if you want to include a bunch of icons in the middle, say “expense reports” or “calendar” and have little pictures with links, you can do this too.

Alerts

This is a pretty standard feature in sharepoint. Say for example, users would like to receive a notification when a specific event happens. You can create a pretty simple alert system that will automatically alert all users when that event happens.

Dynamic preview

This is a feature that will allow you to hover over a specific link to show you a preview of what the link will look like on the right hand side. This is a sharepoint-specific feature.

Search

The same great search that’s available to you when you are select team-mates for a project can be available to you in your intranet site. Say you are looking for a specific support document for a product that went in the field. If you designed your intranet site with a search function that can see the “support” folder, you will be able to easily get the file you are looking for.
