Sharepoint Integration With MS office

Sharepoint is all about document management. We all know this. It’s based on very intuitive technology that almost anyone can start using immediately. It’s important for almost any business to have in their environment. But, when Sharepoint is integrated with Office, well that’s when it all starts to get more interesting and powerful.

Integration with office:
Office 2007 actually offers integration at the file menu level. This means you can use your simple file menu to share documents over sharepoint or use the Sharepoint menu to talk to office.

Document check-in and check-out with Microsoft Sharepoint Services:

You can use Microsoft Sharepoint Services to know exactly which version of a particular document is correct. Remember your time without Sharepoint? You had to constantly email team members. Everyone had a different version of the important document. This would probably lead to confusion and lost time. How this works is pretty simple. You in effect “check out” the document that you need to update. This means that for that time, there is no other user that can use it.

Sharepoint services will also handle version tracking. You will be able to go back and view changes made in the document at any time. If you need to retrieve data back to another version of the document, you will be able to do so.
Sharepoint services also allow your users to “chat” with on another and create discussions inline with the document itself. This removes the headache of having to switch back and forth between chat, email and document management.

Excel

What if you have lists of information that you need to store and share in sharepoint? You can store these in sharepoint and use Microsoft office products like excel to view these as well. Assuming you have the right privileges for the document and on your team, you will be able use Excel installed on your computer to refresh the data on sharepoint with a few mouse clicks.

Wait! Did I confuse you at all? Is your organization looking to do a sharepoint project? If so, write me an email with your situation and I would be happy to offer some advice:
